Full Review of the Breville Twin Motor Mixer
The Breville Twin Motor Stand Mixer is a far sight cheaper than some of the top name brands on the market but it does offer quite a few features to enhance its performance. A very nice idea indeed, but what do my cakes and breads think about it?
What do you get for your money?
The Breville Twin Motor Stand Mixer is a stylish stand mixer with what I would describe as a fairly decent motor. At 550W it is only about half as powerful as some of the other mixers on the market but this motor coupled with the added features of a two speed mixing bowl and slightly off-centre beaters, the Breville is designed for thorough mixing.
A great benefit of the Breville Twin Motor Stand Mixer is that the motor can run on 10 different settings which allows for a good range of mixing from slow folding to high power beating. The two speed mixing bowl is supposed to ensure that no batter is left behind but in all honesty, you will need to stop occasionally to scrape the sides and the bottom (although this can generally be expected for most mixers).
The rubber footprint under the beater ensures that when it is on the go, the Breville Twin Motor Stand Mixer is not bouncing around on the kitchen surface, even when on a high setting. When comparing it to other mixers on the market, it must be said that this mixer is quite noisy but bearable (I suppose).
So what else comes in the box? Well you will get two stainless steel beaters and two dough hooks but sadly no whisks or spatulas which I think is a shame. All of the accessories are also dishwasher proof which is an added bonus in my books.
Does the Breville Twin Motor Stand Mixer perform?
The Breville Twin Motor Stand Mixer performs well on a number of levels. With spring loaded beaters, constant contact is made with the bowl while in use which ideally means that all mixture is mixed but as I previously mentioned, this is not always the case.
In addition to this, the beaters are slightly offset which has two benefits, the first being that the mixture is thoroughly combined and the second being that you have plenty of room to add ingredients when the beater is on.
Although the motor is not the most powerful, it does not seem to struggle with dough or batter. If anything, the dough may take a little longer to knead in the Breville Twin Motor Stand Mixer but heyho, its a small price to pay.
Are there any drawbacks to this stand mixer?
The 4L mixing bowl is great for cakes and doughs but smaller amounts of mixture like icing and cream dont work as well as they could which is not ideal.
The other downfall is that the Breville Twin Motor Stand Mixer does not come with a spatula or a whisk of any description which is annoying considering that this is a mixer. Not to mention that I cannot find these as separate accessories anywhere.
What do we think of the Breville Twin Motor Stand Mixer?
Yes, I have a few gripes about this mixer but if you are looking for something sturdy and inexpensive that will beat (not whisk) and fold your mixture, this is the mixer for you. If you want something with a bit more oomph, then this is not really the mixer for you. The best price we could find it for is £43.89 from Amazon.co.uk. I haven’t had this mixer very long, but so far so good. Some people commented that the attachments didn’t reach the bottom of the bowl. In my opinion that is how they are suppose to be so that they don’t scratch the bowl.
When I mix a cake, I use a spatula and hold it at the bottom of the bowl away from the blades. You really can’t do better for the cost. The manual that comes with it offers suggestions on how to avoid any problems plus it offers some recipes.
This mixer is perfect for people who just use their mixer occasionally.
Had this mixer for quite a long time now though it has only been used for cake mix so it has never had to work too hard. The mixer dose the job but is very noisy we did have a problem with the nylon gears striping sadly it was not possible to buy spares for this and Brevill did not want to know when I asked them to supply the parts so it became usless.
