Full Review of the Kenwood Three Speed Hand Mixer HM220

The Kenwood Three Speed Hand Mixer HM220 is a very basic mixer with just beaters, no dough hooks or anything fancy, but at a real bargain price, the Kenwood Three Speed Hand Mixer HM220 represents good value for money and it is an ideal buy for anyone who has a big mixer, for doing the little jobs that just need a quick whizz, like cream, batter or delumping a sauce.

Why I bought mine

I do have a great big mixer that lives out all the time on the work surface and I use it more or less every day, for bread or cakes. But sometimes, I just need to beat something quickly Im talking about food here, obviously and thats why I got a Kenwood Three Speed Hand Mixer HM220. I have a stick mixer which is excellent for batters and purees when the amount is too small for the big mixer, but that isnt very good when a mixture needs air in it. The Kenwood Three Speed Hand Mixer HM220 with its three speeds can whip cream in no time and because there are three speeds, you dont have to end up with splashes all over the place.

Problems?

I have to admit, and sorry, Kenwood, but the beaters are really flimsy and when they go, which they will sooner rather than later, the Kenwood Three Speed Hand Mixer HM220 will be essentially worthless, because replacements would be more expensive than the machine was in the first place. The Kenwood Three Speed Hand Mixer HM220 beaters have a plastic bit that joins the beater to the bit that goes into the drive (I expect it has a name but I cant imagine what it might be) and this looks a bit flimsy.

I store the Kenwood Three Speed Hand Mixer HM220 on a shelf, but it is only a matter of time before something gets out down on it or something and then I think it will be goodbye beaters, unless they die in action first. This isnt a complaint because I think for the price the Kenwood Three Speed Hand Mixer HM220 is good value, but I imagine some people are unlucky and dont get five minutes use out of the beaters before they break. Its a shame the beaters are not all metal it cant be that much more expensive to make.

Would I recommend it?

If anyone with no mixer at all and a reasonable interest in cooking asked my opinion, I would have to say no, dont buy the Kenwood Three Speed Hand Mixer HM220; spend a little more and get better build quality. But if someone like me who just wants a cheap and cheerful addition to their other mixer, I would say go ahead and buy a Kenwood Three Speed Hand Mixer HM220 it will do just what you want; a quick beating job with little effort and no fuss. The beaters are easy to clean, if flimsy and the three speeds come in really handy. The best price we could find it for is £16.99 from Cook In Style.
